How much do we like things to be easy, comfortable, and convenient?  The natural tendency for most all of us is to choose the path of least resistance.  This is the vice of sloth, or what the ancient Desert Fathers referred to as "acedia."  Acedia becomes a vice when we find ourselves intentionally avoiding something hard that we know must do, face, or work through.  Addressing the reality of this vice in us can ultimately help us become people of perseverance, self-control, and faithfulness.
