Jesus' Most Powerful Word Picture
In the last chapter of this fascinating story of Jesus and his encounters with people, the Pharisees have rejected Jesus as a sinner, thrown his new "seeing" disciple out of the synagogue, and denied their own blindness (John 9:24, 34, 40). In response, Jesus tells a parable about how a good shepherd differs from Israel's current shepherds, who are no better than hirelings or even thieves. Through this passage, Jesus shows us not only how to follow him as the true shepherd, but how we can help shepherd others.
