Is Baptism the best next step for me?

The Bible teaches that every individual who puts his or her trust in Christ for salvation should be baptized. There are many biblical examples of this teaching. In the book of Acts we see numerous examples of people putting their faith in Christ and being baptized shortly thereafter.

(Acts 2:37-41, 8:12-13, 10:47-48, 18:8)

A Baptism Class will be held 2-3 weeks prior to the actual Baptism Celebration. At this 30-minute class, we will discuss The Gospel, what we believe about baptism, the process of preparation at NorthBridge, and any questions you may have. The goal of the class is to find out whether baptism is the best next step for you at this point in your spiritual journey.

Can my child be baptized at NorthBridge?

At NorthBridge, we are generally hesitant to baptize children under the age of 13.  While this is handled on a case-by-case basis, the pastoral team will often suggest to parents that children wait to be baptized until they reach an age where the life-long and identity-defining decision of following Jesus can be fully grasped. If your child has expressed an interest in baptism, we suggest you attend the Owning Faith Milestone Seminar. This seminar equips parents with a deeper understanding of baptism and some resources to help prepare their student to determine if Baptism is the next best step.  Then we encourage the parent and student to attend the Baptism Class together to get better sense of their readiness and understanding.

How is baptism done?

The word “baptize” literally means “to immerse”.  In New Testament times when people were baptized, they were usually immersed in a local river or pond.  In similar fashion, baptism at NorthBridge Church is the full immersion of a person in water to symbolize our cleansing from sin and our identification with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection to new life.  As the New Testament commands, this is done in the name of our Triune God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Baptism by full immersion is not only commanded by Christ, it is also a requirement for partnership at NorthBridge Church.

Baptism may be done as a part of a Sunday worship service or as a separate Baptism Service.
