Full name: Michelle Renee Albrecht
Fears: I’m a scaredy cat! I jump at all things random noise, including people I can’t see walking around the corner.
Favorite movie: Pride & Prejudice. I’m a sucker for a great ending!
Previous job or line of work: Once upon a time I use to be a 5th grade teacher in Mundelein. At the time Mark & I didn’t have any children so every year I adopted 27 fresh little faces. Btw? Fifth grade is a GREAT age!!
When and where did you get saved? I grew up in Nigeria where my parents worked as missionaries, but when I was 4 years old we came back to the States on furlough. During one of our vacation days I got sick so my mom made me stay in bed. Trying to console a sad 4 year old who didn’t want to stay in bed, she brought a piece of juicy watermelon to snack on. The watermelon must’ve tasted really good because we ended up having a life-defining conversation over that piece of fruit! I asked her if she would help me ask Jesus to come into my heart. Fast forward many years … when I was 13 my Dad baptized me outside in an old rock quarry.
Ministry role: I work as the part-time Music & Worship Director. My time is spent primarily investing in the Sunday morning teams and crafting our corporate time of worship.
Life-changing moment: My 2nd bout with cancer was the single most faith-defining moment of my life. My heart was completely devastated and beyond angry. But it was in that moment God met me and became more real than He’s ever been. He impressed a question upon my heart …. “Am I still good even if this doesn’t turn out well? Can I be trusted even if you don’t like what I’m allowing? Am I still good?” Because of His grace the answer was and continues to be, YES!
Favorite scripture: 2 Timothy 1:7 “For the LORD has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
Least favorite thing to do: I HATE cleaning the bathroom … ESPECIALLY the shower!
Least favorite food: Raw fish! YECCHY!
Your family: Married to Mark for 32 years. He’s my pal! ☺ We have the world’s BEST son ever, Cody! And now the world’s best daughter-in-law, sweet Brenna!
One thing most people don’t know about me: I hate heights, but wanted to conquer my fear. For my 50th birthday I went skydiving. It didn’t work. I still hate heights, but I’d do it all over again!
Most adventurous thing you’ve ever done? In 2015 I had the privilege of going back to Nigeria to meet the orphan we’d been sponsoring for 10 years. We affectionately refer to Damilare as our adopted Nigerian son. He loves all things photography and has the heart of a pastor!
Last meal on earth: Carson’s ribs with extra sauce & cheesy au gratin potatoes.
Wildfire’s chopped salad. Cold Stone’s That’s How I Roll signature flavor.
P.F. Chang’s Moscow Mule.
What sport are you good at? I wish I was! I’m a wanna-be athlete.
My hero: My mom! When I grow up I want to be like her.
Pet peeves: Arrogance. I’m not a fan of folks who claim to have it all together.
Life motto: God, give me Your perspective, Your heart, and Your eyes to see this life.
