Full name: Danae Handorf
Ministry role: Programming Director
Your family: Married to Tim since 2001 – we have 3 kids: Gabe, Cael, and Karys
Dream vacation: Tim and I are adventure partners and travel junkies! Over the years we have taken advantage of side trips while away on business-like places in India, or vacations in Europe…Ireland, France, Italy, Sweden, and Spain….to taking our three kids on a through-hike on the Appalachian Trail. It is hard to pick, but a bucket list trip would be to the Maldives. They are sinking due to rising sea levels and beach erosion…would love to experience their beauty in my lifetime!
One thing most people don’t know about me: I have horrible eyesight. I’m nearsighted with a -10 prescriptions (definitely not a perfect 10 – ha!), and I’m grateful to be able to wear contacts.
Been in ministry since: 2009, we had our youngest in 2008 and I sold my business and was staying home for a few months while the kids were so young. I had served alongside the former programming director and when she and her husband planted a church, I offered to assist in her absence. That was 10 years ago – best yes!
What makes you laugh? Honestly, I am such an easy laugher! I speak fluent sarcasm and enjoy the opportunity to make my kids roll their eyes when I dish it out, but secretly I know they love it!
The most exotic place you’ve ever been to: Bali, Indonesia for our honeymoon.
Most adventurous thing you’ve ever done: hiked canyons in Joshua Tree National Park. I don’t love heights and at times we had to walk across rocky points that straddled 30-foot drops with about 4″ of space for my feet. Highly recommend if you’re a thrill-seeker! I am not…but I survived!
Things that fascinate me: a spectacular sunrise or sunset and how every moment has a new set of colors within the cloud formation.
People who inspire me: creatives and those who are innovators or pioneers in their field.
Favorite sport: If I am watching….college football or basketball (Go Cyclones!); if I’m playing….golf.
Life motto: You’re never fully dressed without a smile.
Last meal on earth? I spend entirely too much time thinking about food – it is a passion and probably a bit of an obsession. This is a hard one! I love a good pan-fried scallop, well-prepared vegetables (not mushy!) and something with crunch and caramel for dessert.
